Week 9 nominees for Army STRONG Wrestler/Wrestling Coach of the Year

Nominations are now online for Week 9 of the Army STRONG Wrestler/Wrestling Coach of the Year for Pennsylvania, honoring Pennsylvania’s best high school wrestlers and coaches. Anyone can vote for the weekly winner online at http://www.TheSportsFlash.com. Voting ends at 9 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 17. Winner announced on Friday, Feb. 18.

This week will be the last week to nominate your coaches and wrestlers for the U.S. Army STRONG Coach of the Year. The last lists of nominations for this 10-week program will be posted Monday, Feb. 21. Nominations can be made at http://www.thesportsflash.com.

or E-mail your vote to ArmySTRONG.PA@TheSportsFlash.com with the name of your wrestler.

1. Kenny Courts of Central Dauphin HS recorded a 44-second pin of Easton’s Jose Rotger to clinch his team’s PIAA Class AAA state title. Courts is 35-2 this season with 18 pins. (1E3D)

2. Darian Cruz of Bethlehem Catholic HS helped his team to the PIAA Class AA state title, going 4-0 with three pins and a technical fall at the state tournament. For the season Cruz is 28-2 with 11 pins. (1E9F)

3. Zak Koller of Central Dauphin HS went 4-0 with three overtime wins during the PIAA Class AAA State Tournament, helping his team to its fourth-straight state championship. In the title match, Koller edged Easton’s Tyler Greene, 5-3, in overtime. Koller is 30-6 this season. (1E3D)

4. Mason McIntyre of Easton went 4-0 with two pins in helping his team to a second-place finish at the PIAA Class AAA State Tournament. For the season, McIntyre is 21-1 with seven pins. (1E9C)

5. Zeke Moisey of Bethlehem Catholic HS helped his team to the PIAA State AAA championship, going 4-0 with two pins and two major decisions. Moisey, wrestling at 112-pounds, has won 12 consecutive bouts with six pins, two major decisions, and a technical fall. (1E9F)

6. John Rizzo of Richland HS is the defending PIAA champion as a heavyweight and is currently 29-0 this season with a career record of 106-10. (1E15).

1. Jeff Karam of Bethlehem Catholic HS coached his team to the PIAA Class AA team championship with a win over defending champion Fort Leboeuf (38-21) in the title match. The Golden Hawks knocked off Biglerville (52-9), Reynolds (38-19), and Towanda (45-18) in advancing to the title match. Bethlehem Catholic finished 13-1 in dual-matches this season. (1E9F)

2. Jeff Sweigard of Central Dauphin HS won its fourth-straight PIAA Class AAA championship with a 36-18 win over Easton in the championship match. Central Dauphin finished the season 24-0. (1E3D)
