Army STRONG Iron Man Coach of the Year

Harrisburg Battalion A&PA Staff Report

SSG Matthew Rudy, from New Kensington RS, presented the first–ever U.S. Army STRONG Iron Man Coach of the Year to Coach Todd Hazlett, from Deer Lake’s High School, Feb. 4 at the Deer Lakes Middle School, where Coach Hazlett is a part of the teaching staff.

This football season the Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion held a statewide campaign to recognize the best two-way high school football player and coach voted on by football fans across Pennsylvania.

“This program has spiked a huge
interest from the football coaching staff and the athletic director to
support our recruiting efforts by them wanting to help advertise the army
logo in the way of helmet logos, a patch for their jerseys, pretty much
anything we would be able to provide,” said SSG Rudy.

Hazlett led Deer Lakes to its first winning season since 1995 (7-3), and the school’s first-ever WPIAL playoff appearance in the 41-year history of Lancers’ football.

Fans from across the state selected Hazlett from among 10 finalists. Hazlett will receive four passes to the 2011 Steelers Coaching Clinic and the Deer Lakes High School athletic department will receive a $500 donation from co-sponsors “The Sports Flash” Radio Network.
