EASY: Vote, nominate Army STRONG Wrestler, Wrestling Coach of the Year

As soon as the wrestling season “shot” into high schools throughout Pennsylvania, the Harrisburg Battalion “ankle-picked” into the Army STRONG Wrestler and Wrestling Coach of the Year Campaign.
“We honor the best high school wrestlers and wrestling coaches in our recruiting area through this campaign,” said Staci Cretu, the battalion’s Advertising and Public Affairs chief, who spearheads this program for the battalion.
How the battalion does this, added Cretu, is through a weekly nominating and voting program housed at the Web site managed by the campaign’s co-sponsors, The Sports Flash Radio Network.
Cretu said that this campaign will run for 10 weeks. It started in early December and will end in early March.
“Recruiters, fellow classmates, and schools’ and battalion staff – anyone can nominate and vote for their favorite Army STRONG Wrestler and Wrestling Coach,” Cretu said.
“Easy” is how Mark Mazarella, the battalion’s Education Services specialist, and Staff Sgt. Keith Bittner, the New Kensington Recruiting Station assistant commander, describes the voting process for this campaign.
To vote for your favorite Wrestler, Bittner explains “go to the Web site, (http://www.thesportsflash.com/ARMYSTRONG-PA.htm), click on the center of the page for the current week’s list of nominees, and under each nominee there is an e-mail link. Find your favorite and click on the e-mail link – it’s that easy.”
Mike Sinnott with The Sports Flash said that the above method is one way to vote. “You can also manually send an e-mail vote by using the ArmySTRONG.PA@TheSportsFlash.com and including the nominee’s name in the subject line.”
“Our entire office votes each week because this program gets us further in the schools,” said Bittner, who added that New Kensington RS has had three winners in the Iron Man/Coach football campaign including the Army STRONG Coach of the Year, and just recently had a winner for the Army Strong Wrestler for week three of the campaign. “It’s a great program. It shows that there’s more to the Army – offering opportunities and programs to support the community.”
Voting for the weekly winner will continue until 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday. The weekly winner will be announced on Friday. Each weekly winner will be a finalist for the Army STRONG Wrestler of the Year.
Besides voting, recruiters can also nominate for the Army STRONG Wrestler and Wrestling Coach. Nomination for Army Strong Wrestler/Army Coach of the week by e-mailing armystrong.pa@thesportsflash.com with the coach’s or wrestler’s name, school and a brief description of why you are nominating this person, such as the team’s or athlete’s record and significant accomplishments.
“By nominating, recruiters can have an open dialogue with the schools about wrestling and hopefully can help establish or further working relationships,” said Cretu.
The Army STRONG Wrestler and Wrestling Coach of the Year Campaign is part of the U.S. battalion’s 2010 Army STRONG Tour, which also includes the Pennsylvania Passing League, Army Iron Man of the Year campaign and the Army STRONG (football) Coach of the Year.
