Continuing a commitment to education through a partnership with Communities in Schools.
Today, the Education Specialist, and Advertising and Public Affairs Chief met with the president and executive director of Communities In Schools, a nationwide network of professionals working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The purpose of the meeting is to gather information about how the Battalion and this organization can partner together to provide continued support to our local schools in PA. CIS PA currently has 6 affiliate programs in Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley, Pittsburgh-Allegheny, Laurel Highlands and Southwest PA (Uniontown) with over 600 people affiliated with local high schools working with over 21,000 students on a personal basis. Based on the initial meeting, CIS PA will be sending all affiliate organizations in PA information about the many free programs the Army has to offer. We are currently working on integrating our services with the services the in-school coordinators provide to their students. Two programs we will be partnering with them on will be on February 28 during their Annual Advocacy Program which will bring all affiliate members and 50 plus students in from the state for a conference. We will be a guest speaker as well as provide an educational workshop for the students in attendance. April 27-28 we have also been asked to participate in their Northeast Regional Training which brings all about 40-50 CIS personnel in the Northeast together. The Army was asked to provide a seminar on leadership and program overview for integration into the local high school. http://www.communitiesinschools.org/
